The Best Technology Gadgets I Wish I Owned

If there’s one way to describe me it’s that I’m a sucker for technology. I can’t always afford the latest and greatest, but I usually end up with the cool stuff sometime down the road. Sometimes it takes a really long time though. For example I just barely bought an Xbox 360 a little under two years ago. Nearly 4 years after it’s release. Same with the iPhone, also about 2 years after it’s release.

What I wanted to do with this post is highlight some of the coolest technology out there right now that I hope to own at some point, whether it’s in a couple months (not likely) or within the next five years.

Audio:

I’m starting with audio because music has always been a passion of mine. I considered going to school for something related to music, but I decided against it because I felt like it would be a super-competitive industry to break in to. It would have been sweet to have been a producer 😉

Anyway, the first thing on my list is a nice pair of headphones. I want some nice noise-canceling headphones that I can put on and block out the world, such as the Bose QuietComfort 15’s. $300 for a pair of headphones sounds like a lot, but to hear the music the way it was meant to be heard comes at a price and is worth it. A pair of Clarion wireless headphones to use while on the elliptical or to watch TV while my beautiful fiance is trying to study would be nice too.

I like my music loud. Really loud. I have a pair of Eclipse 12″ subwoofers in my truck which I bought from Circuit City before they went out of business and turned into an online-store. Since they were from Circuit City, the obviously aren’t top of the line, but I still think they are pretty good, but what I really want are the Eclipse 10″ SW8000 series.

Last of all, I want a nice speaker setup for my computer. I haven’t really done any research into the type of system I want, but I want it to sound like I’m in a theater 😉 If you have an recommendations, I’d love to hear them.

Video:

I love video. When I was in college, the video editing class I took was the funnest class I ever took. It nearly made me want to change schools and go to a film production school.

I purchased a little Sony Handycam last year, but I went the cheaper route, which I now regret. It’s a nice camera and all, but if would have spent only $100 more, I could’ve have gotten the upgraded HD model. I’ll probably buy a better camera in the next couple of years. What I’d really like though is something like the interchangeable lens Handycam NEX-VG10. Since I don’t do any professional work, I probably won’t ever buy something that expensive, but it would be nice.

A more likely purchase for me in the near future is the Looxcie camcorder. It’s a camcorder that fits on your ear in way similar to a bluetooth headset. It records everything you see throughout the day and if something interesting happens you can save it to your computer. I really want one of these. I actually had one in my online shopping cart and backed out of the purchase at the last minute because I needed to save my money.

Even though I don’t live in a bad neighborhood, I’d also like to get a nice motion activated camera. I actually do have a security camera setup on my house, but the quality isn’t so great. It does the job, but I’d really like to get an upgrade. I’ve seen a nice system show up on 1SaleADay several times in the last couple of months. I’ve been thinking hard about that one.

Photography:

I love photography. I try to take my Canon EOS Digital Rebel to all of the major events I attend, unless I take my camcorder instead.

My camera is the first model ever made in the Digital Rebel series, which takes photos at 6.2 megapixels, so it’s definitely in need of an upgrade, considering that most high-end camera take pictures at higher than 10 megapixels. While it would be nice to buy an EOS 5D, at $2500, it’s probably never going to happen, but I do picture myself owning a Canon EOS 60D, which is still expensive but much more affordable at $999 and much cheaper used.

I’ve never owned a Nikon camera, but they are the biggest competitor to Canon so they must be an awesome camera manufacturer. The Nikon D7000 looks like a comparable model to the Canon EOS 60D. If I could afford a Nikon telephoto lens and a macro lens, I’d be all set.

One of the most popular cameras these days is the camera on the iPhone 4. It has a flash and take pictures at 5 megapixels, which is amazing for a phone camera. It’s one of the biggest reasons I want to upgrade my iPhone. I have an old crappy iPhone 3g, so it’s about that time. I’m actually holding out for the next iPhone which is estimated to be releases sometime around September 2011. I can’t wait!

So that’s my technology shopping list. The most likely purchases out of all would probably be the iPhone 4 and the Looxcie camcorder. And if I have any wealthy readers, you now have my Christmas list 😉
